“Setting Up Shop” refers to what you’ll be doing immediately upon arriving in Hawaii.
Depending on your planning, this could be a very smooth transition, or, if you moved more spontaneously, then you’re going to have a lot of work to do (and may experience some stress.)
But fear not, for even though it may be stressful, the sunny blue sky and warm aloha spirit will more than make-up for the stressful time. Our family was so excited to be here that we barely noticed all the events taking place. We had to do almost everything from scratch since we were not sure which island we were moving to!
Setting up shop includes:
1) Choosing an area to live 2) Finding a home 3) Choosing a school if you have children 4) Securing employment 5) Getting Your Stuff 6) Acquiring furniture or stuff you didn’t bring 7) Setting up cable, phones, insurance, etc. 8) Meeting your neighbors 9) Becoming familiar with the area (grocery stores, Costco, Post Office)
